CONTEMPORARY SCANDI DESIGN MEETS HISTORIC CASTLE VIBES

Cameron and Russ had a clear vision for their stationery: textured and contemporary without any fluff nor calligraphy. Despite choosing an 800-year-old castle in Denmark as their wedding venue to provide a taste of historic Europe to their US-based family and friends, they wanted clean lines and a modern aesthetic with a monochrome palette of black and off-white. Achieving this fine balance where the two different styles would mesh together in a cohesive manner was the main challenge, especially for their planner Monica from Dandelions Celebrations (spoiler alert, she nailed it!). To add a touch of summery romance and warmth to the design, a hint of blush was introduced to the palette.

For Cameron and Russ's concept, I drew inspiration from Scandinavian design, aiming for distinctive typography with a modern yet slightly retro flair. Choosing a bold and minimalistic geometric font proved to be an instant hit. To pay homage to the venue, I incorporated an arched details card mirroring the castle's entrance and designed a bespoke pattern inspired by the interior decor of the reception room. While calligraphy wasn't in the mix, I introduced a modern script-style font for a warm and personal touch to the suite. The invitations' tactile feel was achieved using a thick cotton-based paper, featuring both embossing (raised surface) and black hot foiling.

Continuing the sleek aesthetic of their suite, Cameron and Russ's on-the-day stationery featured silver hot foiled black circle cards as menus, minimalist bar signage, a fabric seating chart (ideal for destination weddings and a perfect keepsake) and charming die-cut escort cards tied with velvet ribbons around champagne flutes.

Cameron and Russ had the most gorgeous wedding day in Denmark, surrounded by so much love and it was a privilege to be a small part of their story.

We had a great experience with Smitten with Ink!

We were doing a wedding in Europe with a British wedding planner, while we and all of our guests were stateside. Our wedding planner recommended Helene and we were not disappointed.

The design was custom and she worked with our wedding vision and venue to make it perfect.
